Creating Subject Guidelines: All Hands On Deck

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Subject guidelines serve as a planning tool, a guide for selectors, and as a communication tool for library users, staff, administrators, and other libraries. The Ottenheimer Library at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has recently completed subject guidelines for all the academic programs at the university. A team of three librarians and one paraprofessional, developed a template for library selectors to use in creating subject specific guidelines and guided the process to its completion. In this session, the presenters will describe their role in the creation of the guidelines. They will share their experiences working as a team; highlight the challenges they faced, and provide examples of completed guidelines. The session builds on the presenters’ 2012 Charleston paper on the viability of creating collection development policies/guidelines.
